In General, News from the Greenhouse & "Yarden"

We’ll start shipping neem sprouts, shown here growing in four-inch deep containers, on Monday. We ran out last year, though, so if you’re looking for the most economical way to buy a neem tree, grab them now!

Seedlings are coming up incredibly quickly and we’re going to start shipping neem sprouts on Monday! I’m not sure we’ll have enough time to pack neem sprouts that haven’t been pre-ordered, but we’ll work on it. And while we’ve run out in the past, I think we’ll have plenty of neem sprouts this year.

If you’ve ever thought about growing a neem tree, sprouts are without doubt the most economical choice. They’re $21.99 for 20 seedlings but they’re hard to count so we typically ship closer to 25.

The seeds themselves are no longer available. They’re only viable for about 30 days after they’ve been harvested. We still have a couple of dozen packages if you’re brave enough to try them — just include a note in the comment section and we’ll send them for free.

Even fresh, however, seeds are notoriously difficult to germinate, so we’ve gotten them through that challenge. The sprouts are four to six inches tall with a matching rootball (we always sell great roots!) We ship them bare-root with just a little bit of water, so be sure to be ready to get them in the ground as

Ironically we’ve been growing neem and tulsi together for year.

soon as they arrive! (Please read the growing directions when you place your order.)

Everything else in the Ayurvedic greenhouse is thriving in the strange summer we’re having here – temperatures are actually lower than usual and it rains nearly every day. I guess they think they’re in monsoon season in their native India. We had a giant sales spurt on ashwagandha but everything else is in stock including neem trees and seedlings, gotu kola, betel leaf, brahmi, chaya and aloe. (Baby ashwagandhas are growing now so they’ll be available in a month or so.)

Don’t forget August Specials, including our clinically proven neem leaf cream on sale through the end of the month. And if you post a review, then we’ll send you a coupon for half off your next purchase, because we think you’ll be addicted.

Speaking of additive, we’ve gotten a lot of calls looking for OxiNeem or DentaBootoothpaste vs toothpowderst. We were giving them away free because a large company had ordered pallets-worth and the government shut them down for making claims. They gave them back to us, so we shared them with you. Our neem bark toothpowder is actually the second iteration of that product – we added diatomaceous earth for its bio-available calcium and other minerals. I’ve always had sensitive teeth and I like it even more. (Learn more about abrasive substances and your teeth in this blog.)

And finally, just in time for outside Labor Day activities, we’ll put the Anti-Itch Products back on sale. We have a couple of new employees in the greenhouse and yarden – they were pretty funny when I told them this worked better than commercial products but they’re addicts now! If you’re going to spend the day outside, rub on a thin layer after a shower but before you’re 100% dry. You’ll be totally amazed at how much difference it makes.

It’s great for itchy dogs too, particularly the salve stick that lets you get a thin layer exactly where you need it!

And finally, this weekend only to celebrate Labor Day next Monday, we’ll put Stream2Seas’s amazing reef-safe sunscreen on sale. If you haven’t been following the issue, the ingredient in about 70% of sunscreens sold in the US kills coral larva at about 800 parts per million — that like a drop in six Olympic swimming pools.

The research so far is focused on coral reefs — they’re not only beautiful but they’re critically important in a marine ecosystem — but many scientists think they impact the entire food web and probably human beings as well.

Stream2Sea provides complete UVA and UVB coverage and comes in a tinted formula so you don’t get the white “shield of honor” from its reef-safe mineral ingredients. (Follow their blog at www.Stream2Sea.com to learn more — some sunscreen ingredients are so dangerous that the state of Hawaii has banned them!)

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend — we’ll post August and September specials on Sept. 1, but won’t be having open greenhouse because it’s a holiday weekend.
