Description
Another plant we’ve been growing for years but not recognizing its Indian heritage and medicinal qualities is the Indian borage (Plectranthus amboinicus). As Floridians, we know it as Cuban oregano and use it in many of our favorite meals.
Turns out, there are currently 75 research papers on Indian borage published in the National Library of Medicine and it has multiple uses as a folk remedy around the world.
- Skin allergies are treated with a juice of the leaves.
- Leaf tea is used for coughs, sore throats and nasal congestion, as well as flatulence, indigestion and hiccups.
- Indian traditional medical recognizes the leaf as supporting healthy liver function.
- Sweetened leaf tea is given to children with colds.
