Description
A series of studies over the past 20 years consistently show that neem chew sticks — or extracts from them — are as effective (sometimes more effective) as the traditional nylon toothbrush and the commonly prescribed chlorhexidine gluconate, which may cause dangerous allergic reactions as well as stain teeth permanently.* (Learn more here.)
To use a neem stick for oral care, chew the end of the stick to form bristles and then carefully rub the bristles along your gum line as you would a toothbrush. Cut off the end each time you use it to ensure freshness. A quarter-pound contains between 15 and 25 chew sticks depending upon the size of the stick. They should last about three months.
For best results, refrigerate (don’t freeze!) until you’re ready to use them but keep them in paper, not plastic.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We typically ship chew sticks that are about 6 inches in length and the approximate width of a Number 02 pencil, down to smaller sizes with brown bark. If you’d rather have the softer growth at the end of the branch — or tougher bigger sticks — please let us know. It’s easy to accommodate your wishes, but only if we know which you prefer. Please Note: You will get fewer sticks if you request larger sticks, and more if you ask for the smaller sticks because they are sold by the pound.
INGREDIENTS: 100% neem bark. Chew sticks are shipped from our Florida farm the day they are harvested. They’re packed in paper bags and have no preservatives.
* Neem Tree Farms does not sell products that are intended to diagnose, prevent, treat or control any disease.

Interesting flavor, but once I got used to it, it was not bad. Much healthier to chew on than my nails. 🙂

Fresh like they say, and true to nature 🙂 A “Raw” experience. Be prepared for a pungent or to some a bitter taste… personally I appreciate it! Thank you NeemTreeFarms xo Much LOve for your service here in the USA.

After researching on Miswak, and Neem, i chose to go with the Neem because of all the nutritional health benefits it has. I had read alot of reviews on it tasting awful, and smelling awful. Honestly it’s not awful at all! Alot of people exaggerate on the internet. It tastes like exactly what it is….A Twig. A taste of wooden splinters. Thats it. It has my teeth Shiny, and i noticed that when i chew the neem stick, it makes my hunger go away instantly! My only complaint is that i got a few very thin sticks, and when i peel the bark off of it, it becomes worthless to use on my teeth because it’s so skinny and splintery it breaks when i brush with it. Some of the thick sticks stay with a hard end after you chew it and open it up to brush with. You WILL need something to freshen your breath. I only chew neem sticks now, and ditched the toothpaste and brushes. I really am liking the clean look, and feel it has done to my teeth and Gums! But neem will not improve your breath. You will need to make time in the morning before starting your day to use neem. It takes time to soften and chew the stick. It’s best used for 20 minutes. The splinters are not sharp. I haven’t gotten pricked. I haven’t gotten any splinters stuck in my gums.

I enjoy neem chew sticks. They don’t have a very offensive flavor or scent, though they remind a coworker of mine of bad spaghetti.
When I first chewed one of the sticks I didn’t know what to expect, and was a little grossed out and stopped. However, later on in the week I actually felt a craving to chew on the sticks again. So now I do it when I feel a craving to chew on them, but for daily use I don’t like to take time to chew and chew. I also prefer the cooling of mint or simply of rinsing the mouth that chewsticks don’t provide.

I’ve used Neem chew sticks for many years and they work well for me. Neem chew sticks are very effective at removing stubborn tooth stains and cleaning plaque. They also firm up and tone the gums. I have less tartar build-up since using them and a much brighter smile.
A trick to soften the bark to form bristles without 20 minutes of chewing, is to first run warm water over the stick a moment before chewing. This seems to soften the fibers and with a bit of chewing at the tip, a nice “tooth brush” develops. The neem fibers really lift stains (even tobacco and red wine) often within moments. My smile is brighter without harsh or unpleasant chemicals.
The “juice” released from the stick by chewing has whitening and brightening properties.
After each use, I rinse and dry the stick for re-use. The tip can be clipped with scissors to form a fresh, trimmed brush. Though not necessary, I also rinse my teeth with a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide followed by a warm water rinse before using the neem sticks. This seems to enhance the stain lifting properties of the neem and freshen the breath.
These neem chew sticks remove tooth stains better than the many whitening products I’ve used that contain harsh chemicals. Unused Neem sticks should be stored in paper – not plastic- to preserve freshness, and I also store them in the fridge. As with any tooth brush, rinse and dry the chew sticks between use and discard previously used sticks when they lose freshness. Never store the chew sticks in plastic.

I had a cap that was rubbing, and swelled. I couldn’t get a dental appointment as a rush. I found neem tree farms in a Google search and received my bark prior to my appointment. After chewing the bark for one day, the swelling and pain was gone from the roof of my mouth. And cap was comfortable in my mouth. All I can say it is amazing!

For me, my brushing is not complete till I chew on these neem sticks. It brightens your teeth and you feel refreshed. Appreciate the team of Neem Tree Farms for making such natural products available. Thanks.

These are great! They’ve completely replaced my toothbrush so far (one week). However, the smaller ones are not as sturdy and dont last nearly as long so I wish only bigger ones were included.

The sticks are great. I even got my husband addicted to them and my 6 year old son loves to use them too. The taste is only bitter when you’re not used to it. Only disappointment is that a previous posting suggested that if you create an account then you can send a note to the packers to ask them to only put in the ticker sticks as the super thin ones are pretty useless. I made the account and I sent the request for only thicker sticks – and my request even showed up on my receipt- but there were mostly extremely skinny sticks in my bag. The skinny ones do not hold up well and do not create enough of a brush. You also cannot split the skinny ones in half to use as a tongue cleaner. Happy with the neem sticks but not happy with the size that were sent despite my request.

I’ve ordered these neem sticks several times now. They have always arrived very fresh and they keep well. The taste was unusual at first but has grown on me. You can request a certain size of sticks with your order. I like the medium-thick size, they seem to make the best brushes for your teeth and tongue. I’m glad to have found a good source for these!

Went out of their way to customize my order. I wanted thicker sticks since I use them as a substitute for cigarettes ( I quit 10 yrs ago, but still need something to chew on.). I peel the bark using a vegetable peeler and cut the sticks to about 3 or 4″ lengths, and they work perfectly. Getting rid of the bark also gets rid of the bitter taste.
By the way, for all smokers out there, my doctor says my lungs are perfectly clear, so quiting really does work.
Thank you so much for going to the extra effort to fulfill my order.

I love neem sticks, my dental hygienist who I saw after just a week of chewing on one was very impressed with my progress, the gaps the measure (not sure what it’s called decreased by half. I also noticed that I don’t smoke as much. I don’t mind the bitter taste and find myself reaching for it out of habit now. Can’t wait to go back to the dentist 3 months from now and see what my progress is.

We ordered a “serving” of these neem sticks to see if they would work for us in our quest to avoid plastic wherever we can. They took a few days longer to ship than we expected (which made us worry the order had somehow gotten lost). We contacted Neem Tree Farms and very quickly got a friendly note back letting us know our order was being processed that same day; the farm had just been very busy during that week. The sticks arrived swiftly, courtesy of USPS.
When chewing the sticks start out very bitter (though we noticed some parts seem to be more so than others) so there is a bit of an adjustment period. After a while both of us found the bitter somewhat enjoyable, but that may not be true for everyone. The sticks require quite a bit of chewing before the fibres release and turn into the bristle shape and texture that is then used to clean the teeth, so it is important to schedule enough time for this activity. It’s easy enough to combine with reading a book or watching a video or so, but it’s not a swift “do it while rushing out the door to make it to work on time” thing.
These sticks are not likely to work for everyone, but they work for us so far. We’ve not seen a dentist since we started these, but our teeth do have that nice, clean feel after we used these, so we expect no issues there.

I asked for a sample stick with my order even though I had already chosen the butterfly seeds as my free sample. And I also had the nerve to request what size I wanted. What I received was more of a representation of this company’s ethics in that 1) I was sent a sample on top of my previous free seed sample. 2) I was given the specific size I ordered. 3) I was given more than what I asked for. – Who does that?! Not major corporations that are more concerned with getting that one time money because they know this will be a one time sale based on their inferior products. – Back to the stick… it’s just great! The plus is that it reaches areas that a toothbrush cannot with (what I have termed) all that Neemy goodness. My stick frayed up with chewing in about a minute. Yes, there was a bitter taste, but it is not overpowering. And like others have mentioned, it came to be quite pleasant to me. – I prefer the Neem charcoal powder for my morning teeth cleaning, but I can see how the sticks would be great to chew on the job & then clean with after a lunch break. I see it more as an “on the go” item for me since I associate teeth brushing with mouthwashing. – As a smoker (of organic tobacco leaves that I strip, dry, and shred myself), I can see chewing & moving these sticks around in my mouth as another form of oral gratification. And that is another benefit for me.

Correction – elimination of swelling.

These Neem sticks are always fresh and delicious–they have a bitter flavor, but also a delicate rich buttery taste. The flavor reminds me of onions without being hot and spicy. I especially like to eat them after eating sweet fruit. The contrast is yummy! Either I brush my teeth with them, or chew a tiny piece after eating (about every 2 hours) like chewing gum. I have tried many other chew sticks–olive tree twigs are good, licorice (I don’t recommend it), persica (miswak), and almost every tree in my neighborhood, but I think Neem is the best in flavor, and it has a lot of health benefits. For a toothbrush, I let the bristles get at least an inch long and fold them over in my mouth, so they are gentle on my gums. If they are only 1/2 inch long, depending on the twig, they sometimes scratch me, so I chew them a little more to get them longer. Thank you very much, Neem Tree Farms, for your speedy deliveries, and personal touch!

Great product. I’m working on restoring enamel and feel these are helping. Can feel sensitivity pain lessening. Only issue I had was did that the product did not clearly state it is “live” and therefore exempt from free shipping. Well worth it in any case.
Vicki –
We thought we had removed them from the “live” shipping issue. The problem is that living plants weigh so much, it’s not fair to someone in Florida to subsidize the cost of shipping a heavy tree or plant to California. I’ll check on that now and have it changed ASAP.

Excellent neem sticks. They’re great quality;they come fresh, soft, and almost moist or dew-like, like they just came off the tree on an early morning while the branches or sticks were still slightly wet from the dew.
The sticks themselves are great too, medicinally. They’re full of flavor which is why they’re probably soft. The sticks can be chewed to be broken dow into smaller segments or snapped down to smaller segments, and peeled, to be chewed as a piece of gum (my preferred method). Most people prefer to use them as brushes but not me, but that works as well.
They’re alot of sticks in the package, so you shouldn’t feel left out with a little bit if you dont have a lot of money and cant order a lot of them or a big bunch.
Thanks (people who made it and packaged my order)! 😉

I just got my package of samples and tried them for the first time. First of all, the customer service is amazing, I could not be more grateful. I was sent different sizes of twigs — small, medium, and large thicknesses — with a handwritten note saying that I can test out the sizes and request the ones I like when I order in the future. I also got an email with a tracking number when my order shipped. I tried the twigs, and I admit I had to do a little more research to figure it out.
The small twigs work best, they have the most of the bitter-tasting sap/juice, and are softer and easier to chew. I don’t mind the bitterness, once you taste it and know what to expect it’s really mild. My teeth feel super clean, I chewed the end and then swished the juice around, and did a once-over with the bristly end afterward.
I especially like this because I can chew these in my downtime or while reading, rather than have to set aside time to brush my teeth. And I am a person who runs out the door, so being able to bring this with me to chew in the car is also really helpful.
Overall, loved the product, LOVED the service, and I will be ordering more when my sample runs out.

I discovered neem chew sticks while searching for plastic-free alternatives. I have been using bamboo tooth brushes, but these chew sticks seem like an even more sustainable choice. The bitter taste seems to come mostly from the bark. When peeled first, the bitterness is reduced significantly – hardly even noticeable. The bark peels easily, especially if you moisten it first. I’ve only been using these for about a week so I’m still experimenting, but I found that I really only need to chew the end once. After that, I just make sure I leave a little bit of the frayed end whenever I trim some off. Water and saliva combined with brushing will naturally start forming longer “bristles” again as I brush. Also, I’m finding that it doesn’t take much chewing to get the bristles started. Especially for the medium and smaller sizes. At first, I was making the bristles longer than they needed to be. Little pieces kept breaking off while I brushed. It takes much longer to brush all my teeth, so I’ll probably keep a bamboo brush around for when I’m in a hurry. Imagine brushing your teeth with a pencil-size paint brush or with Q-tips. That should give you an idea of how much time it takes to brush with these. I’m currently using a stick that has a diameter a little smaller than the width of each of my upper front teeth and about the same width as my lower fronts. The really small sticks can be used for in-between teeth, along the gum line, and hard to reach areas. It takes me much longer to brush now, but I think my teeth and gums will end up being cleaner and healthier. I am curious to see how my next dental cleaning/check up goes if I keep using these. Even if I start getting lazy and stop brushing with these Neem sticks, I will keep some around for removing wine and tea stains from my teeth – they do a great job.

I’m sold on these neem sticks even though it did take a little getting use too. I forgot to grab one heading out to work and realized I didn’t want to be without them. My teeth feel so clean and refreshed. It’s feels just like you’ve brushed and used mouthwash. Excellent addition to your dental cleaning.

It took a while to get them due to freezing weather and I’m not sure how long they will last given that I live off grid without access to refrigeration. I appreciate the care in shipping them when it was known they would be OK on arrival and much appreciate the plastic free packaging.
For NOW, I am loving them. This is my first order and the assorted sizes are allowing me to test whether I prefer the smaller or thicker stems.
They seem to be leaving my teeth clean and taking out some of the coffee stains (which I reapply frequently). I have been brushing with plastic bristled brushes using baking soda rather than toothpaste. These seem easier on my gums.
The free and unexpected sample neem soap is much appreciated as well! Thank you. I plan to keep using this company due to quality product, excellent service, and ethical sourcing and shipping. thanks to all who worked on my order and at the company.

Definitely an interesting flavor at first, started with too big of a piece and it was overpowering. Downsized and dialed it in just right, I really do enjoy the clean feeling it provides when done chewing. Great quality of been, would highly recommend. Customer service was also really good, lots of communication from Neem Tree Farms! Thanks!

This is my first time trying the neem chew sticks for brushing my teeth. I ordered medium thick ones but looks like I got the thin sticks. When I chew on a neem stick gently, it breaks off into pieces so much so that there are no bristles to brush. I tried soaking the stick in warm water before chewing but that hasn’t helped either. On a positive note, I do like the flavor of these sticks. I also like the neem tree bark powder that neem tree farms has kindly sent a sample on my request. I eagerly waited for my package to arrive but I am disappointed after trying to brush my teeth with the chew sticks.

Hi Aishwarya,
We’re sorry you were disappointed. Please make a note with your next order and we’ll send extra and make sure they’re medium thick.

I LOVE these neem sticks! I was reading a book about Ayurveda Lifestyle and the author mentioned neem sticks in the oral care section soon had to have them! I was more than pleased with what arrived. Fresh, delicious, neem twigs! They do an amazing job cleaning my teeth. Love reading of the benefits. Will DEFINITELY buy again.

I am soooo, very happy to now have my order! It took for ever to arrive through USPS! I can now start chewing, and brushing for a great smile, and happier teeth! I also enjoy using the sticks for medicinal purposes; I find that they are very helpful going to work to chew, before being around any germs, etc.! Thank you Neem Tree Farms for making these available!

This is is my first time trying Neem Sticks. I asked for a suggestion on size of sticks and received a size that was perfect for me. I have done lots of all natural products so the taste doesn’t bother me, but I can see how it might for those that are used to flavored toothpastes. My teeth feel great like they’ve just been cleaned at the dentist. It is a bit time consuming, but I like the idea of being more mindful while caring for my mouth.

I love the Neem sticks. Nothing else has ever made my teeth feel as clean. They are bitter—perhaps medicinal is a better word but I’ve gotten so I really like the taste. I chew sticks when I go to bed and still brush in morning and night. Brushing doesn’t make my teeth feel nearly as clean.

I’ve used the neem chew sticks for two weeks now. It took a little getting used to—for me, the taste has not been an issue because I’m used to bitter; the learning curve has been more along the lines of how to properly use them. Despite reading the instructions and reviews on this website, I still found it unclear. After some trial and error and further internet research, I’m finally getting comfortable and enjoying it. I am replacing my evening toothbrushing with the neem sticks. I believe I have the medium-size sticks, but I don’t know since I’ve never used them and they were not labeled as such upon delivery. It only takes a few minutes of chewing to soften the bark and create the “bristles.” I find it’s best to create bristles of 1 to 2 inches in length and then use it in the way you would a toothbrush for about the same amount of time. Then rinse your mouth, spit out debris, cut off the used bristles, rinse the stick under running water, and store in a paper bag in the fridge. One stick lasted me about ten days.
I look forward to continuing with this practice and hearing feedback in my next dental appointment.
