Bacopa Monnieri (Brahmi)

$12.99

Brahmi — in this case bacopa monnieri not gotu kola — may help improve cognitive abilities. It also is considered an adoptogen, which helps your mind maintain an even keel. (We also grow gotu kola if that’s what you’re looking for.)

Description

Like neem, Bacopa monnieri — also known as brahmi — is a cornerstone of Ayurveda, one of the world’s oldest medical systems. It is traditionally known as a “brain food” and is used to consecrate newborn babies and open their minds. More recent research shows that it can help improve learning and memory in both humans and mice. It also is a potent source of antioxidants, which may help protect the brain from environmental toxins. Finally, bacopa has constituents that calm the nervous system, making it easier to learn. *

Bacopa is very easy to grow in a sunny window. In fact, it’s also known as water hyssop and grows wild in warm parts of the U.S. where it is the host plant for white peacock butterflies. We try and keep bacopa growing near the house where it’s easy to stop and pick a handful of leaves. They’re a little bitter but not difficult to tolerate (particularly compared to neem!)

It can also be grown in aquariums. These plants are shipped in potting soil but can be easily grown in water.
